Sen. John Curran and Woodridge Police Department Team Up to Host Community Prescription Drug Drop Off Event
Lemont, IL… Illinois Senate Minority Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) is teaming up with the Woodridge Police Department to provide residents with a safe and convenient way to get rid of unneeded prescription drugs that pose as hazards in the home and environment.

Members of the community will be welcomed to drop off their un-needed prescriptions and medications inside the Woodridge Police Department any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Saturday, October 5, 2024. To ensure safety, staff asks participants to please remove prescription drugs from pill bottles and put in a ziploc or brown paper bag so they may assist them in easily dropping off their items.
Accepted medications include prescription drugs, pet medications, and vitamins. Restricted items include liquids/creams, needles, and illegal drugs.
“We hope you will join us to help protect the environment, avoid accidental poisoning and prevent misuse and abuse by safely disposing of unused drugs at this free community event,” Curran said.
Why is it important to safely dispose of unused drugs?
Disposing of medications down a sink drain or flushing them down the toilet can contaminate groundwater, streams and lakes, and could harm people, wildlife and vegetation. At this event, disposal methods are environmentally safe. Medications tossed in the trash could accidentally poison young children and animals. This event also helps rid homes of unused prescription drugs, which might be misused or abused by children, teens and young adults.
