Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) released the following statement in response to Illinois Democrats’ $6 billion tax increase proposal:
“This February, Gov. Pritzker proposed the largest budget in state history that, if enacted, would increase state spending by nearly $15 billion, or 37 percent since he took office. Today, Illinois Democrats proposed an additional $6 billion in tax increases on Illinois families and businesses to spend even more money on non-citizen welfare programs. Illinois taxpayers already pay the highest taxes in the nation, while suffering the highest unemployment in the Midwest. They are taxed out!
“Instead of squeezing more and more out of our families and businesses, legislators should be standing up for Illinois taxpayers so they can use their hard-earned money to build a better life and a better state.
“I urge all my legislative colleagues – regardless of party – to join me in opposing these egregious tax increases and protect Illinois taxpayers.”
