Now that ComEd has agreed to pay $200 million in fines over a bribery investigation, State Sen. John Curran (R-Downers Grove) says that those funds should go back to the customers of the electric utility.
“The money that ComEd is using to pay the fines comes from their customers, who were the real victims of any wrong-doing,” said State Senator John Curran. “The ratepayers deserve to get their hard-earned money back.”
ComEd’s agreed to fines to settle a federal criminal investigation into a years-long bribery scheme in the State involving jobs, contracts, and payments. The money from the fines will go into the United States Treasury, and Congress has the authority to decide where the money should be sent.
Senator Curran is a chief co-sponsor of Senate Resolution 1290 which urges Congress to return the fines to ComEd ratepayers.
