Archery Deer Season Begins

Many Illinoisans will be hoping to spot deer in the coming days and weeks, as the fall archery deer season officially opened on October 1st. The season runs through January 17th, closing briefly from November 20th – 22nd, and December 3rd – 6th, for the firearm deer seasons.

Last year, bowhunters harvested a record number of deer at 67,743, which was just over 7,600 deer less than the total harvested during the firearm seasons. The firearm total marked the lowest level since 2013.

The daily archery season hours run from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset.
