Curran urges President Cullerton to release school funding bill
Following the Governor’s press conference on the second day of special session on school funding reform, State Senator John Curran (R-Downers Grove) released the following statement in support of the Governor’s calls for the Senate President to release Senate Bill 1.
“The Senate Democrats have been holding onto this school funding bill for nearly two months now,” said Curran. “The Governor called special session with the purpose of passing legislation that would allow our schools to be funded as soon as possible. Just one thing stands in the way of schools being funded right now—and that is the release of Senate Bill 1. My colleagues and I are here and ready to work, but Senate President Cullerton and Speaker Madigan refuses to release the school funding bill so we can continue this legislative process. I urge President Cullerton to do the right thing by our schools and release the bill so the Governor and the rest of the General Assembly can get the legislation and make the necessary changes to ensure every school in Illinois will have funding for the upcoming school year.”
