The following is a statement by Sen. John Curran (R-41st District) regarding today’s report that the United State Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency failed to inform residents in a timely manner about health risks associated with ethylene oxide.
Today I filed legislation in the Illinois Senate, which is an initiative of the Illinois Environmental Council. Their measure, developed in collaboration with Steve Leopoldo of Darien, would protect our air quality by: denying renewed permits for companies found to be emitting ethylene oxide that exceed state and federal levels; while also working to prohibit the eventual use of ALL ethylene oxide in Illinois by 2022. Similar legislation will also be filed in the Illinois House, and I want to thank everyone involved in endeavor for their continued support.
